It will come as no surprise to regular readers that I LOVE books so when we were invited to join in with the ‘We’re Off to Find a Unicorn’ blog tour, of course I had to. (Especially seeing as Owlet Press are one of our favourite publishers!) Like lots of other little girls and boys, Erin is also a big unicorn fan at the moment so this story is already a regular at the bedtime story slot!
Who are Owlet Press?
Owlet Press are a new, independent children’s book publisher. Their books aim to equip adults with the tools to equip their little owlets for the big, wide world. For example, ‘The Brownest Mouse in Town‘ is all about learning not to judge by appearances, ‘What Wesley Wore‘ teaches little ones about bullying and acceptance and ‘The Blanket Bears‘ gives an accurate and sensitive representation of the adoption process.
So, what about ‘We’re Off to Find a Unicorn’?
With themes of wildlife and conservation, ‘We’re Off to Find a Unicorn’ cleverly engages young readers, while they meet endangered animals along the way. Written by Eloise White, the repetition and rhythm of the story takes you on an adventure to encounter magical wildlife. It’s beautiful simplicity is perfect for 3-6 year olds and will undoubtedly be a much-loved and much-read story. Erin has just started school this year so took great joy in being able to read some of the high frequency words present throughout this book. And it was great to introduce new vocabulary and animals she’d not heard of before!
I also adore how the beautiful illustrations are so inclusive, with such diversity represented. The colours and details throughout the story are just perfect – Cory Reid is a truly talented illustrator. Little ones will love finding the unicorn throughout the story too!
