Oh we do like to be beside the seaside…

So, if you’ve been following our renovation story over at That Little Home, you’ll know that we recently stayed away for a few days while the kitchen ceiling was knocked down and pipework moved.

Palmeira Court Westcliff Southend

It was all booked in pretty last minute but luckily I stumbled across Palmeira Court, a holiday rental property in Westcliff, Essex on booking.com. It was only a ten minute drive from our house (as I wanted to be close by in case I had to come home for anything) but Erin was still calling it a ‘holiday’! Although the rental looked stunning in the photos, I was a bit wary as previously on various Air Bnb trips, we’ve been caught out by unmentioned details in listings such as spiral staircases (completely impractical with a toddler), being opposite noisy pubs (completely impractical for extremely tired parents of a toddler), not to mention shoebox sized houses smelling of damp. I really needn’t have worried about Palmeira Court though – it was even more stunning than the photos!

Upon arrival (which was a super easy check in, with a key safe available at the apartment), I was still a little bit concerned on entering the building as it was clean enough but just a bit dark. However, once inside the flat I was in love. It was so much bigger than it looks on the pictures… I was expecting a cosy open plan flat, with as much crammed in as possible, and was more than pleasantly surprised. The living room was absolutely enormous, with two seating areas… one of them is the absolute dream for chilling with a glass of wine, watching the world go by. At the opposite end of the apartment was a contemporary kitchen-diner with plenty of space for all the family. There was also a pint of milk in the fridge, with a few tea, coffee and sugar sachets to keep you going for a while. They’ve even thought of plastic bowls and cups for the little ones! And what a view!!

With two double bedrooms, as well as a sofa bed,  plentiful soft, fluffy towels and throws in every room, Palmeira Court is such a comfortable stay. And I love the details of the decor, like the copper handles and hangers, plants and cushions, making it such a home from home. Erin also found the toy cupboard in approx 6.8 seconds – can yours beat that?! Blinds made the bedrooms nice and dark at nighttime, with safety catches on the cords too. I messaged the hosts while we were there as I was worried about the kids being able to open the window in their bedroom but they replied instantly, letting me know where the window keys were and putting my mind at ease.

The bathroom has a separate bath and shower, with a few small toiletries available and don’t forget to try out the mood lighting in the bath!! Most importantly, everything was incredibly clean. Spotless in fact. I genuinely couldn’t find fault with this holiday let and will definitely be back as we have more work done on our own place so fingers crossed we’ll be lucky enough to get booked in next time too!

Oo and don’t forget to request a travel cot and highchair, free of charge, if you need one – definitely one of the perks of staying in a family orientated place!

Location wise the apartment is a brilliantly central location. The Cliffs Pavilion is just a few moments walk away, as is the beach. Palmeira Court is on a busy main road but we stayed in April so it wasn’t too noisy with the windows closed. Restaurants, pubs, chip shop, newsagents, and even the local high street, are all within a stone’s throw. And the apartment is just three minutes’ walk from Westcliff train station, which takes you straight into London or other parts of the Essex coast to explore, such as Leigh and Shoeburyness.

All in all, I would thoroughly recommend Palmeira Court (as would Erin – she hasn’t stopped asking when we can go back!). We would love to hear of any Air Bnb or Booking.com wins you’ve had – we’re always looking for family friendly, interesting places to stay!
